A HISTORY OF INSPIRATION
The story behind Wight & Co. begins centuries ago—not as a continuous distilling operation, but as a collection of historical figures and traditions that inspire what we do today.
While the modern Wight & Co. Distillers is a contemporary whiskey company, our name draws from individuals throughout history who shared a commitment to craftsmanship, trade, and spirits.
Historical records reference individuals bearing the Wight name involved in spirits and trade in England as early as the 1600s. Among them was Daniel Wight II, who was associated with the distilling trade in London during a period when guilds and craftsmanship defined the industry. Records show Daniel was a Master Distiller recognized by the Worshipful Company of Distillers, and proprietor of the George Inn, a pub which exists to this day and is one of the oldest in the UK.
These early connections reflect a time when distilling was a disciplined craft—one rooted in technique, quality, and reputation.
A NAME IN AMERICAN WHISKEY
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, individuals with the Wight name appear in connection with American whiskey production and commerce. Historical references suggest involvement in the broader whiskey trade during a formative period for the American spirits industry.
Like many distillers and merchants of that era, these figures operated in a rapidly evolving landscape shaped by expansion, regulation, and ultimately Prohibition.
While documentation from this period is limited—as is common in early American whiskey history—it represents part of the broader heritage that informs our brand identity.
A MODERN COMPANY WITH A CLEAR FOCUS
Wight & Co. Distillers today is a modern, independent whiskey company. We do not claim to be a continuous family distillery dating back centuries. Instead, we are inspired by the traditions of those who came before and are focused on applying that spirit of craftsmanship to what we do now.
Our work centers on:
- Sourcing high-quality American whiskey
- Aging and maturing barrels to their full potential
- Blending for balance, depth, and character
- Finishing select expressions to create unique profiles
Every decision we make is guided by the same principles that have defined great whiskey in any era: patience, judgment, and respect for the process.
CARRYING TRADITION FORWARD - OUR WAY
Rather than attempting to recreate the past, we honor it.
The name Wight represents a connection to the long arc of whiskey history—but our role is firmly rooted in the present. We focus on curating and creating exceptional bourbon that reflects both tradition and modern standards of quality.
Wight & Co. Distillers continues to build its reputation one barrel at a time—through thoughtful blending, careful selection, and a commitment to transparency about how our whisky is made.
Our story is still being written.
