CAMPFIRE MANHATTAN
Classic Manhattan cocktail infused with vanilla bean smoke adding sweet and savory notes.
Infuse the aromatic compounds of a Madagascar vanilla bean into our classic Manhattan adding a delicious smoky flavor reminiscent of a cozy campfire.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Wight’s Old Reserve Bourbon
- 1 oz Antica Formula® or Noilly Prat® sweet vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura® aromatic bitters
- 5 drops Angostura® orange bitters
- 1 Luxardo® cherry
- 1 Madagascar vanilla bean broken into small pieces
How to craft:
- Pour all ingredients (except the cherry and vanilla bean) into a mixing glass filled with ice and stir well.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, then pour back into the mixing glass. This leaves a coating on the inside of the glass for the smoke to interact with.
- Place vanilla bean pieces on a fire-safe surface and ignite using a kitchen torch.
- Place the cocktail glass over the fire. The flame will slowly go out and begin to emit smoke into the glass.
- After the glass is filled with smoke for a few seconds, slowly turn it over and strain in the mixture.
- Garnish with cherry.
Tips:
- Extra vanilla: gently warm a second unburned vanilla bean over a flame but do not allow it to char or ignite. Fan it a few times to cool, then swirl into the finished cocktail and leave in as a garnish.
- Extra smoke: vary the amount of time the smoke infuses with the glass. Start with just a few seconds, then experiment with extending longer to taste. Also try drizzling in the cherry syrup as with our classic Manhattan before smoking, as additional aromatic compounds will infuse.
