The high-wheat Bourbon in the blend, mash bill 51/0/44/5, was aged 4 years in an ISC barrel, char #4, and was made with Kentucky soft red winter wheat.
Adding depth to the flavor profile, rye Bourbon with a mash bill of 72/18/0/10 was aged 6 years in an ISC barrel, char #3.
TASTING NOTES
On the nose, apple, cinnamon, and maple with light floral notes. On the palate, caramel, honey, butter, and cornbread with baking spice. The finish is delicate with a hint of apple pie and spice.
FOR COLLECTORS
Our super-small batches yield just a few hundred bottles, each inscribed with the batch number. This allows aficionados and collectors to taste them side-by-side over time to compare and enjoy the subtle variations.
ORIGINS OF OLD RESERVE
Until 1954, Wight’s Old Reserve was distilled and bottled in Maryland by John H. Wight and his son Frank. It was aged 6 years and bottled in bond. John used to credit his father, John J. Wight, with its great success, saying it was because of quality standards established by him in the 1860s.
Today, each batch lives up to our name. As a craft producer, we purchase a very small percentage of the barrels we taste. Our batches consist of just of 1-2 full barrels with partial barrels blended in to complete the recipe.
THE WIGHT FAMILY
DEEP DISTILLING ROOTS
Dating to 1680 when Daniel Wight became a Master Distiller in London, through our American whisky making years beginning in 1868, to the resurrection of Wight's Old Reserve in 2025, the Wights have a rich history of crafting fine spirits enjoyed by many.
